Eilif is named after the man who inspired all of Lanullva, Eilif Bernhard Lyngstad, who came home wet and cold from farm work, and who was the reason his wife Brit developed our knitting method in 1994. There is something fitting about our most tradition-conscious collection bearing his name. The Eilif garments are what Brit would have made if she had only Norwegian wool and a knitting needle: durable workwear that withstands the Norwegian climate.

We use 100 % Norwegian wool from Averøy, the same municipality where Lanullva is based, by the Atlantic Ocean in Møre og Romsdal. It is a coarser wool quality than our fine merino wool, and that is exactly what makes it so durable. The Eilif sweater does not wear out after two winters; it improves with the years, becomes softer with use, and often lasts for several decades if cared for properly.

The garments in the Eilif collection are classic utility sweaters: simple cuts, robust knitwear, honest details. They work at the cabin, in the boat, in the forest, at outdoor workplaces. Not for the catwalk, not for the gym, but for the Norwegian life that is actually lived outdoors in all kinds of weather.

Eilif sweaters are most often worn over a base layer; the coarser wool quality is designed to be the outermost layer in the Lanullva stack. The wool is RWS-certified by Textile Exchange (responsible animal welfare and full traceability), Öko-Tex Standard 100-certified, and produced in European factories with proper working conditions. Wash rarely and carefully on the wool programme; wool of this density stays clean surprisingly long. Many Eilif sweaters are passed down after many years of use.
