Allergy-friendly wool

Allergy-friendly wool

Breathable and gentle wool clothing for sensitive skin

Several studies show that merino wool can have a soothing effect for those with sensitive skin or atopic eczema. Combined with our airy knitting method, you get wool clothing with the world's best temperature regulation.

Choose soft and airy clothing

For those with sensitive skin or atopic eczema, it is important to keep the skin dry, as heat and sweat trigger itching and rashes. Therefore, LHL Asthma and Allergy recommends soft, light and airy clothing that breathes well.

Lanullva's unique knitting method, together with the natural properties of merino wool, provides wool clothing with precisely these properties:

Breathable knitting method that keeps you dry and warm

Our knitting method provides better temperature regulation and ensures that sweat and moisture are transported away from the skin. The secret is stitches with air pockets that give our garments good insulation and ventilation. Lanullva therefore takes better care of the warmth you already have, while the wool breathes and releases excess heat that would otherwise make you wet and cold. This keeps you warm regardless of temperature and activity level.

Soft and itch-free merino wool

We use RWS-certified merino wool. This wool has thin, fine wool fibres that feel soft against the skin. In addition to being itch-free, merino wool has high insulating ability, antibacterial properties and is largely self-cleaning. Our knitting method enhances the natural properties of merino wool, and the result is wool clothing that is comfortable to wear and stays drier during activity.

Soothing effect on eczema

We receive several comments from satisfied customers who say that Lanullva wool clothing can be worn by both adults and children with sensitive skin or atopic eczema.

Several studies show that merino wool can have a soothing effect for this group. In 2017, 'Australian Wool Innovation' conducted a study with superfine merino wool, and the results show reduced severity and fewer symptoms of atopic eczema among the participants. It is wool's ability to regulate moisture levels and temperature that has a positive effect on unnaturally dry skin and the itching this causes.

All merino wool below 21,5 microns, such as Lanullva's wool clothing, should be itch-free and soft against the skin. Dermatologists, however, advise parents to listen to their children if they do not wish to wear different types of wool clothing. For some, the skin will be so sensitive that even fine merino wool can cause irritation.

Safe and allergy-friendly wool

All our wool clothing is organically textile-treated. Our collections are also labelled with Safe Textiles, which means that our wool clothing does not contain substances that cause allergies or cancer. All our wool products are therefore safe to use.

FAQ

What makes wool allergy-friendly? +
It is the thickness of the fibres that makes the difference. Merino wool under 18 microns is so fine that it bends against the skin instead of prickling.
Can people with eczema wear wool? +
Yes, many people with eczema tolerate fine merino wool well. We always recommend testing it against the skin first.
What distinguishes Lanullva wool from regular wool? +
Lanullva uses wool with extra-fine fibres knitted in a special way that creates a soft layer of air against the skin.
