Base layers for children must withstand two things at once: rough play that generates lots of heat, and quiet moments when the child loses heat quickly. A good base layer goes unnoticed, keeps the child warm when needed, and lets excess heat escape when activity increases. It should not itch, chafe or become clammy either.
Lanullva's wool underwear for children is knitted in merino wool using the airy method that provides 30 percent more air pockets than regular wool knit. These air pockets allow the garment to regulate itself according to the child's activity level, without an adult having to keep watch.
At nursery, the garment is worn under a sweater and snowsuit all day. It often comes along in the pram, gets forgotten at the playground, and finds its way back into the laundry basket without smelling bad. At home, it can be worn on its own as pyjamas on cool evenings, or under a T-shirt when the weather becomes milder.
We use 20,5 micron merino wool. The wool is RWS-certified by Textile Exchange, Öko-Tex Standard 100-certified (no harmful chemicals against the skin), and produced in European factories with proper working conditions. The garments do not grow with the child, but they often last through several siblings if cared for properly: wash sparingly on a wool cycle, air instead of washing, lay flat to dry.
